Material is thick, and when compared to the duffel I had from R E I, this felt twice as thick. I like the criss-cross diamond "design". Not only does it make it strong, but it makes the fabric design look unique but subtle. Only drawback is that there is only one zipper instead of most bags that have 2, but at least the zipper is large and appears durable. But if needed, you can slip a luggage lock through the zipper eye and the d-ring on the side of the duffel. The straps go all the way around the bottom of the bag, putting less stress on the stitching and making it less likely to break. The shoulder strap unfortunately does not have that so that could be a potential weak point. The bag itself seems sturdy but does not feel like it is super thick material. I don't foresee that being a problem though. One descriptive line reads, "Top Open With Construction Grade Zipper," and another reads, "Wraparound HD [heavy duty] Webbing Reinforced Handles." The first bag I received (from Amazon Warehouse Deals), had no zipper anywhere on it, did not have wraparound webbing, and if by "top open" we mean opens along the length, the one I received opened on the side, and closed by means of a closing flap and grommets. I returned this one to Amazon and took a chance on ordering another, hoping it would match the description, and it did. It has a very sturdy looking zipper that runs along the length of the bag, and the webbing wraps around the bag, making it look and feel quite strong and secure. Other than that,... Read more |
